How to replace the radio on a 2017 Chrysler 300

For the most part, removing and replacing your 2017 Chrysler 300’s radio is a pretty straightforward process, one that requires very little mechanical or electrical expertise. To uninstall the factory radio, you’ll need to disconnect the battery, remove the climate control panel and surrounding trim, and unscrew the four screws holding it in place.

1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal

Seeing as you’ll be working with electronics, the first step in replacing your 2017 Chrysler 300’s radio is to disconnect the negative battery terminal—this will help prevent accidental shocks and lessen the chances of damaging your old or new stereo unit.

2. Remove the climate control panel

With the battery disconnected, you can safely move on to the next step—removing the climate control panel. Removing this panel will require you use either a panel clip remover tool or a flat-head screwdriver to release the retaining clips holding the panel to the dashboard.

3. Remove the dash trim

In similar fashion, remove the radio “bezel” dash trim surrounding the stereo system—you can use the same tool as before, as this piece is also held in place with retaining clips.

4. Unscrew and pull out the radio

Once the climate control panel and surrounding dash trim are out of the way, the face of the radio should be uncovered. The entire unit is held in place with four screws—remove them and carefully pull out the radio, taking care not to rip out any wires or cables in the process.

5. Disconnect the main wire harness

After you’ve pulled the radio out of its compartment, you will need to unplug the main wire harness from the back of the stereo unit—this part should be easy to identify, as it is exactly what it sounds like: a harness where all of the radio’s main wires plug into.

These wires come in virtually every color in the rainbow, so if you have any doubts as to which plug is the main wire harness, just look for the one with the most colors leading into it.

6. Remove and replace the radio

With everything disconnected, it’s time to finally remove the radio from your vehicle. Once you’ve done so, you’re free to replace it with a new one—to install it, you should be able to simply reverse these steps.

It should be noted, however, that some aftermarket stereos and sound systems require further modification to your Chrysler before installation. If this is the case, we’d recommend having a professional take care of it.
