How can I install a trailer hitch on a Honda Odyssey?
What’s the best way to install a trailer hitch on my Honda Odyssey? I recently got two new canoes, and it would be great if I could tow them behind my car.

Installing a trailer hitch is a fantastic way to increase the utility of your car—but it takes a little elbow grease. To install the trailer hitch on your Honda Odyssey you will need:
- Exhaust pliers
- A nut driver
- A socket wrench with a 5-inch extension
- A 19mm socket
- A friend or family member for assistance
Before you get started, remove the driver’s side rear panel. From there, you can follow these steps to install a trailer hitch:
- Unscrew the four bolts on the bottom of your driver’s side panel.
- Unscrew the two screws inside the panel.
- Remove the mudflap and rubber isolator holding the exhaust in place.
- Have a friend help you line up the hitch with the bolts holes by your exhaust.
- Bolt the hitch to your car using the holes by your exhaust.
- Use the socket wrench and attachments to tighten the bolts.
- Reinstall the rubber exhaust isolator, mudflap, and driver’s side panel.
