Will an air oil separator void the warranty on my Subaru?
A friend of mine had engine problems with his Subaru. Apparently, they over-consume oil? If I install an air oil separator on my Subaru, will that void my warranty?

The short answer is maybe. An air oil separator could void the warranty on your Subaru.
If Subaru can prove that a modification you made has caused an issue with your vehicle, then your warranty will be voided.
However, an air oil separator can be beneficial in some ways, including:
- Helps keep your car’s air intake clean
- Protects against premature combustion (aka detonation)
- Reduces oil consumption
Unfortunately, this is kind of a catch-22 scenario. Subarus are notorious for excess oil consumption, and one way to prevent related engine problems is to install an air oil separator. You just need to be aware that any mechanical issues that can be linked to its installation will not be covered by your Subaru warranty.
Subaru’s new car warranty offers basic coverage for three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. Subaru’s powertrain warranty lasts for five years or 60,000 miles. Make sure you know whether your warranty is still valid before you make any modifications to your car.
