Can the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition go off road?

Yes, you can take the 2022 Toyota Sienna off road—but that doesn’t mean it was built for it.
The2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition should not be anyone’s first choice for adventure, but the all-wheel-drive version comes with a bit more ground clearance that will do the trick on certain terrain.
Starting at $45,500, the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition is a hybrid—just like every other Sienna—and is at the top of the Sienna trim levels. Besides added ground clearance, this van comes with additions to let you bring along extra cargo, as well as a tow hitch to haul other toys.
Let’s take a closer look.

Ground clearance

Ground clearance is, perhaps, the most important number to be aware of when it comes to choosing an off-road vehicle. At 6.9 inches—about a half-inch higher than the next-highest Sienna trim level—the Sienna Woodland Edition’s ground clearance is at the low end of what’s acceptable for off-roading vehicles.
In a perfect world, you want a ground clearance between 8.8 and 10.8 inches. The higher the clearance, the easier it is to tackle off-road terrain. But since the Sienna Woodland Edition is the only minivan to offer an off-road package, it stands out in its class.

Torque

The vehicles you want to take off-road are loaded with low-end torque. That’s a high amount of torque at a lower rpm. Since turning ability is more important than going fast when you’re off road, low-end torque is the ticketto your best trail experience.
The 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition’s 2.5-liter I-4 hybrid engine gets a maximum of 176 pound-feet of torque at 245 horsepower. It’s not much, but it’s something, especially when you consider it’s a hybrid minivan.

Tires

The 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition comes with a set of P235/60R18 tires. These are standard on most vehicles. They are not
all-terrain tires
, which you will find on some off-road vehicles. But if you want tires for off-roading, you can always buy them.
All-terrain tires won’t last as long as regular all-season tires. However, they come with a more open, more aggressive tread that offers better traction.

Drivetrain

The 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition comes standard with all-wheel drive, which is what you want if you plan to drive off road. The other Toyota Siennas come with front-wheel drive, which isn’t sufficient for rough terrain.

Angles

Off-roading is all about angles—specifically, the approach angle and departure angle
  • Approach angle: The maximum angle at which a vehicle can climb without interference
  • Departure angle: The maximum angle at which a vehicle can descend without interference
While there is no approach angle or departure angle listed, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for the 2022 Toyota Sienna Woodland Edition to have low angles, which makes it tough to do much of anything off of the highway.
