How can I get my car ready for a road trip?
My friends and I are planning to go on the San Diego to Phoenix road trip from your website! We’re taking my car. How should we prepare for the ride?

It’s great to hear you liked our recommendation! We hope you and your friends have a great (and safe) time while you’re on the road. Here are some things you can do to prepare your car for the long drive:
- Check that your tires aren’t worn
- Check that the A/C runs
- Get a general tune-up
- Renew all your documents (car insurance, registration, etc.) and make sure you have copies
Make sure your car insurance policy is equipped to cover you in case of a traffic accident or collision (most insurance policies will
cover you during interstate travel
). You’ll also want to plan ahead for a potential roadside emergency. There is nothing fun about breaking down in the desert, so make sure you purchase a roadside assistance plan to cover tire changes, winching, lockouts, and more.
