Apprehension about driving lessons is understandable—learning how to drive can be scary and challenging. But it can also be fun! Here’s how to reframe your outlook to get the most out of driving lessons while also enjoying the process:
- Be realistic: You won’t be ready for the Autobahn after your first lesson—learning to drive takes time. Stay patient and have faith that—under the supervision of a qualified driving instructor in a controlled environment—you’ll be able to safely learn while having fun, too.
- Go with the flow: You’ll have good days and bad, so try to keep your expectations in check. Focus on the basics before expecting to be able to parallel park an 18-wheeler. One day at a time, you’ll get there!
- Find the right instructor: Feeling safe and comfortable with the right instructor goes a long way in finding the fun in driving lessons. If you feel unsafe with your driving teacher for any reason—or if the whiff of bourbon is unmistakable as they enter the car—find a better instructor.
