Checking your onboard diagnostics and codes is essential for making sure your truck runs smoothly. Therefore, you should definitely check the codes if something pops up.
To check an error code on a Mack truck, you need a scanning tool that runs an onboard diagnostics scan. As technology has advanced, most cars and trucks now have computers that help run diagnostics when there is an issue
Many auto parts stores and online companies now sell scan tools that allow you to plug into the computer and find the error code. If you aren’t able to get a scan tool, you have a few other options.
Depending on the year of your truck, you could try reading the flashes of lightning bolts. Some people have had success counting the flashes and correlating them with an error. On older models, some have had success with turning off cruise control and holding the set/resume button. This may flash the computer code using the electronic malfunction light.
If neither of those options work, take your truck to a Mack dealership or repair shop. Both should have tools available to properly read the error code.
