Overview: what is a Dodge extended warranty?

When you buy a new vehicle, a factory warranty is commonly included in the overall cost. Per said warranty, the automaker guarantees that they’ll pay for any necessary repairs on certain defects in the design and manufacture of your automobile.
New Dodge vehicles are no exception—the factory warranty includes three years and 36,000 miles of limited bumper-to-bumper coverage along with five years and 60,000 miles of powertrain coverage.
If you would like to extend your warranty coverage, Dodge offers a few options through Mopar, ranging from 5 years/60,000 miles to 8 years/150,000 miles
You can purchase one of Dodge’s extended warranties at the dealership when you purchase your new vehicle. You’ll also have the option to add it on later, as long as you do so before your vehicle hits 4 years or 48,000 miles.

Dodge extended warranty plan: coverage and cost

Dodge offers two unique extended warranty plans through Mopar: Mopar Maximum Care and Mopar Added Care Plus.
Mopar Maximum Care is the most comprehensive plan and lasts for 8 years or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first. Mopar Added Care Plus can be purchased in two different term lengths: 5 years/60,000 miles or 8 years/150,000 miles.
Let’s take a closer look at what’s covered, what isn’t, and what these plans might cost.

What’s covered

Each of the extended warranty options expand Dodge’s factory warranty, with a few added perks. To understand exactly what’s covered, let’s first look at Dodge’s factory warranty.
Dodge’s basic limited warranty covers most parts and components on your vehicle for three years, while the powertrain warranty covers your vehicle’s most essential systems for an additional two years. Here’s what the powertrain warranty will protect:
  • Transmission
  • Engine
  • Transfer case
  • Differentials
  • Drive axles
The Mopar Added Care Plus plan covers more than 800 components with a $0, $100, or $200 deductible. This isn’t quite as comprehensive as the original factory warranty, but you’ll also enjoy rental car coverage, towing services, roadside assistance, and trip interruption protection.
The Mopar Maximum Care plan, on the other hand, is incredibly comprehensive. This plan covers more than 5,000 of your vehicle’s components with a $0, $100, or $200 deductible. It includes rental car coverage, towing services,
roadside assistance
, and trip interruption protection.

What isn’t

Unfortunately, no extended warranty plan out there covers every possible repair. Here are some typical exclusions:
  • Anything covered by your auto insurance: E.g. non-moving body parts, glass, sheet metal, paint, rust, etc.
  • Anything covered by required maintenance: E.g. batteries, cables, belts, hoses, tires, lights, brake pads, and rotors
  • Anything caused by improper and unreasonable use: E.g. off-roading, drag racing, etc.
  • Modified or custom parts: E.g. an aftermarket
    sound system

  • Other components: Fabric, upholstery, carpets, dash pad, wiper blades, etc.
It’s also important to keep in mind that, with a Mopar Vehicle Protection plan, you have to use the dealership for all of your repairs.

Duration

The duration of your Dodge extended warranty depends on which plan you choose. If purchased at the dealership when you buy your new vehicle, the Mopar Maximum Care plan lasts 8 years or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first.
As for the Mopar Added Care Plus plan, you can choose between 5 years/60,000 miles of coverage, or 8 years/150,000 miles of coverage
You are allowed to purchase an extended warranty plan at a later date, any time before your vehicle hits 4 years or 48,000 miles. Keep in mind, however, that the eight-year period starts from the original purchase date. That means if you decide to add the coverage when the Dodge is three years old, you will only receive five years of protection.

Cost

The exact cost of your extended warranty will depend on a variety of factors, including what plan you choose, as well as the make, model, and year of your vehicle.
Additionally, plans can be purchased with $0, $100, or $200 deductibles. The higher the deductible, the lower the premium.
Finally, if you wait more than a year after purchasing the vehicle to add on an extended warranty, you will pay extra fees.

Is it worth getting a Dodge extended warranty?

Whether or not it’s worth it to purchase an extended warranty depends on your personal finances, as well as the specific vehicle you drive. Before purchasing a new Dodge, look into the model’s anticipated reliability ratings to predict if regular repairs will be necessary.
It’s also important to note that Dodge’s Mopar extended warranties aren’t your only option. You’re welcome to shop around and purchase a different extended warranty from a third-party company if you’d like.
Another alternative? Invest in
mechanical breakdown insurance
(MBI), which may be available through your car insurance provider. MBI helps to cover the cost of mechanical repairs not caused by wear and tear after your vehicle’s factory warranty expires, but it’s regulated by outside bodies and not purchased through a dealer with a profit incentive.
