How bad is driving in New Orleans?

I’ve always wanted to move to New Orleans and I finally have enough money to make it happen. While I’ve heard that crime is a bit of an issue, my cousin who lives there told me that traffic is downright awful. Is driving in New Orleans really that bad?

Congrats on the move! Driving is bad in New Orleans, but it’s not as difficult as driving in Los Angeles or another major city.
Moreover, Baton Rouge actually ranks higher for terrible drivers, giving New Orleans the silver medal for the worst place to drive in
Louisiana
. Here are some statistics that back up New Orleans being a bad place to drive:
  • NOLA ranks 23rd in the country for accident frequency, according to an Allstate study.
  • It’s the fifth-worst driving city in America, according to experts.
  • It has some of the worst road conditions in the country due to potholes, sinkholes, and a lack of money to fix them.
  • There is a disproportionately high amount of
    uninsured or underinsured
    drivers.
While New Orleans may have a poor reputation for traffic, did you know that Louisiana has some of the highest car insurance rates of any state in the country? You can’t change traffic patterns in the Crescent City, but you can certainly find better auto insurance rates by using the
