Does renters insurance cover damage to your car?
My car was parked at my apartment and someone smashed the window. I have renters insurance. Would my renters insurance cover the damage to my car?

I’m so sorry to hear that happened. Although your car was at your apartment, your renters insurance won’t cover the damage to your car.
While your car is personal property, all homeowners and renters policies exclude motor vehicles from coverage unless:
- They aren’t registered for use on the road.
- They are only used on your residential property.
That said, you would have coverage if your personal property was taken and damaged in your car. For example, if your computer was taken from your car, you’d have coverage.
To fix the damage to your car, you’ll need to file a claim with your
car insurance company
. Your comprehensive coverage
