Knowing how to change your car’s flat tire is definitely critical prep for any road trip. Fortunately, most Mini Coopers do have spare tires, but it depends on which model you have.
Here are some things you should know before your trip:
- Some Mini Cooper models have a micro space-saver spare tire—located under the back of your car.
- Other Mini Coopers, like the S model, have run-flat tires instead—these tires are designed to last 50 miles after a puncture to get you to the repair shop safely.
If your Mini Cooper is equipped with run-flat tires, just keep driving after your tire is punctured and get your car to the mechanic ASAP. If you have a micro space-saver spare, you can usually find it by removing the trunk floor trim panel and using the tool tray to lower the spare tire out from under the vehicle.
Remember, you can always refer to your owner’s manual to get detailed instructions on which type of tire your Cooper has and what steps you should take if you get a flat. Be sure to keep a good eye on your tire pressure monitors throughout your trip—if it’s showing that your tire pressure is decreasing, check for punctures right away.
