"Does home insurance cover plumbing issues? "

My old apartment was plagued by plumbing problems. Now that I'm about to buy my first house, I want to know if home insurance will cover any future plumbing issues at the property.

“It really depends on what caused the loss to occur and what coverage you have on your policy. A specific coverage that could help in this case is
water/sewer backup
. If sewage backs up into your home, it could cause a lot of damage to your property. Most companies typically offer water/sewer backup coverage as an add-on; it isn’t generally included in standard homeowners policies.
A frozen pipe could also result in a water loss. If your pipe freezes and bursts suddenly and accidentally, then the water damage would typically be covered by your home insurance.
If your plumbing fails due to normal
wear and tear
, then most policies may not extend coverage to you.
If you have questions about your coverage and whether it is sufficient, it is a good idea to talk to your insurance agent. “
