Does driving for Uber Eats affect insurance?

One of my friends told me that he was making about $200 a day driving for Uber Eats. I’m in need of some extra money, so I think I might give it a go. I’m just worried that it may cause an increase in my insurance. Will driving for Uber Eats affect my insurance?

Yes, driving for Uber Eats will probably increase your premiums—and it requires special insurance coverage.
Driving for Uber Eats is a novel way to earn some extra cash, but you may also lose a little bit. There are the two main reasons that your premiums will increase:
  • Mileage: You spend more miles on the road as a delivery driver, so insurers will assume that you’re more likely to file a claim and charge you a higher price.
  • Rideshare insurance
    : Rideshare and delivery drivers must carry special insurance, otherwise they could be denied coverage under a personal auto policy. Although typically only a few extra bucks a month, this cost can add up over an annual basis.
