Does car insurance cover rat damage?

I couldn’t get my truck to start this morning. When I checked under the hood, I saw that some of my wiring had been chewed up, and I found a couple of rats in my garage. Now, I can’t get to work, and I’m hoping I won’t be out more money on repairs. Will my insurance cover the damage from rats?

Oh no! I’m sorry to hear about the damage to your vehicle. Although not every insurance policy covers damage from rodents, if you have comprehensive insurance, you should be good to go.
Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your truck that isn’t from a collision: fire, falling branches, vandalism, and yes, even rats. If you suspect that the harm to your truck came from rodents, call your insurer. They’ll help take care of the repairs and get your truck back on the road as soon as possible.
If you’re trying to avoid rat damage in the future, try to keep your truck clean and park far from food sources. Also, since rodents gravitate towards warmth in the winter, keeping your truck somewhere enclosed, like a garage, is a great idea.
