Do you need to call your home insurance company after building a deck?

I'm building a fairly nice-sized deck (about 10' x 14') to my home. Do I need to call my home insurance company after the deck is completed?

“While you could choose not to call your insurance company, if you don’t, you run the risk of getting denied a claim if your deck is ever damaged.
The best plan here is to tell them about it so you can make sure it’s covered. Once you finish the deck, call your agent. There might be a slight price increase, but it won’t be outrageous.
If there is an increase and you’re unhappy, use Jerry. Jerry gathers the best-priced quotes from the 50 top insurance companies to make sure you’re getting the best coverage.”
