Do electric cars pay tolls in Florida?

We’re driving to Florida for the weekend to spend some time with family, and I know states have different policies when it comes to EVs. Do electric cars pay tolls in Florida?

Yes, electric cars pay regular tolls in
Florida
. Unfortunately other than the I-95 Express lane, the Sunshine State doesn’t have freebies for EV drivers who take the highway.
Low emissions vehicles could at one point bypass all Florida toll stations, but this freebie ended in 2017. Now all vehicles that drive on the highway have to pay a fee.
While this may seem unfair, all cars wear down the road whether they are low emissions or not. Therefore, all drivers who use the road pay so that the state can fix it when it needs repair.
The
I-95
Express allows toll-free use for some vehicles including carpool vehicles with more than three passengers, hybrid and low-emission vehicles, motorcycles, etc. In order to ensure toll-free status, drivers must register their vehicles and renew them every year to maintain the exemption.
