Do car insurance companies consider flooded vehicles a total loss?

My Nissan was flooded after torrential rain in my area. I called Allstate to submit a claim. I have gap insurance, but can I expect my vehicle to be a total loss?

“Sorry to hear about the flood, but hopefully, you can come out of the situation with a beneficial situation.
Whether your vehicle will be marked a total loss will depend on how much
Allstate
determines your vehicle is worth and what the cost to repair it will be. In the case of flooding, cars are typically beyond repair, so expect a total loss.
If your
car insurance company
determines the actual cash value of the vehicle is more than the cost of repairs, they’ll pay for repairs. If the repairs are more than your vehicle’s value, Allstate will likely pay out the ACV.
Gap insurance
will cover the difference between your loan balance and the actual cash value of the car. If your loan is less than the vehicle’s value, you won’t need to submit a claim as it’ll pay off your loan.
Keep in mind that you must have comprehensive coverage to get compensation in the event of flooding. If you live in an area that’s prone to flooding and you don’t currently, you may want to add it or shop around for it. With the

app, you can compare dozens of quotes from over 40 insurers so you can find the perfect flood protection for your car.”
