Can you flat tow a Chevy Bolt?

I love my Chevy Bolt, and I really want to bring it on my next camping trip. I’d like to tow it behind my motorhome—is this safe?

We’re glad you’re loving your Bolt! However, you should not flat tow a Chevy Bolt. Flat towing may cause serious damage.
You probably already know that flat towing involves attaching a tow bar to a vehicle and letting it roll on its own four wheels behind another vehicle.
The Chevy Bolt’s owner’s manual advises against flat towing. Why is that?
  • The Chevy Bolt cannot be put in neutral without a driver present inside the car.
  • Being inside a vehicle that is being flat towed is dangerous—and if you were involved in an accident, your medical bills and repairs would not be covered by warranty.
  • Flat towing a Chevy Bolt could also result in drivetrain damage.
If you want to tow your Chevrolet Bolt, you can tow it on a dolly, a flat-bed trailer or directly on a flat-bed truck. Consult your owner’s manual for instructions.
