How to reset the engine oil maintenance reminder light on a 2016 Mazda CX-5

The Mazda CX-5 maintenance reminder light (the one that’s shaped like a wrench) will light up whenever your Mazda CX-5 needs an oil change, but you will have to reset the light after every oil change—otherwise, the system will not properly track when you need to get your oil changed.
Thankfully, resetting the engine oil light on your 2016 Mazda CX-5 is not that complicated. This is how you do it:
  • Start by putting your key to position 2–or press the start button with your foot off the brake. You want to power up your Mazda without starting the vehicle’s engine.
  • Use the control knob to scroll through the options on your infotainment screen and select APPLICATIONS.
  • Select MAINTENANCE and then select SCHEDULED.
  • Select RESET and confirm that you want to reset scheduled maintenance.
  • Then, use the back arrow to return to the MAINTENANCE menu and select OIL CHANGE.
  • Select RESET and confirm that you want to reset oil change.
The engine oil life on your display screen will revert back to 100% and the wrench-shaped maintenance reminder light will shut off. It will only light up once the time has come to change the oil on your CX-5 again.

How often does a 2016 Mazda CX-5 need an oil change?

Mazda recommends using SAE 0W-20 engine oil and changing the oil once a year or at least every 10,000 miles. Keeping in line with Mazda’s recommendations will keep your CX-5 running smoothly and
will prolong the life of your engine
You can take your CX-5 to the shop to have the oil changed, or you can save around $100 and
change the oil yourself
. Just remember to reset the maintenance reminder light to ensure the oil life is properly tracked and you know exactly when to change the oil again. If, for some reason, the wrench-shaped light won’t reset, then bring your CX-5 to an auto repair shop or a licensed Mazda dealership for service from trained technicians.
