Can you chew gum during a driving test?

Gum always calms me down when I’m nervous, and I’m feeling pretty anxious about my driving test. I was planning on bringing gum with me for the drive, but I don’t know if I can! Am I allowed to chew gum during my driving test?

Chewing gum is a great tool for staying alert and at the ready when you’re behind the wheel or taking a test. It makes sense that chewing gum during your driving test could help you perform at a higher level. But since there’s no official rule on chewing gum during your driving test, whether or not you’re allowed is left to the discretion of your test proctor.
Unfortunately, there’s no easy way to say whether you’ll be allowed to chew gum during your driving test. While it should probably be okay with most people, you may get a picky proctor who prefers you keep your full attention on the road.
The best way to find out if you can chew gum during your test is to bring a pack along for the ride and ask your proctor if they mind. If the proctor says yes, go ahead and chew some gum! You might even want to offer them a piece to be polite. But if they say no, you’ll need to keep that pack in your pocket.
If you’re still feeling nervous about the test, try using some of these tips to settle your nerves:
  • Talk to a friend
  • Take a deep breath
  • Get a good night’s sleep
  • Practice
Remember that every state allows new drivers a certain number of mistakes during their driving test. Nobody expects you to get everything right on your first shot, so take a deep breath and try to have fun! Getting your
