Are radar detectors legal in Ohio?

I have a few speeding tickets. And while I’m trying to become a better driver, I don’t want to get another ticket. I thought about getting a radar detector. Are they legal in Ohio?

Radar detectors
are perfectly legal in
Ohio
for private drivers. However, the same device is illegal for commercial drivers. This means that truck drivers aren’t allowed to possess a radar detector, or they may face a fine from law enforcement.
Since you’re talking about a car that you own,
you can buy a radar detector
and use it to avoid speed traps. The quality of radar detectors varies, as does the price. But you can get one for between $100 and $500.
However, focusing on your
driving habits
is a free and more effective way to avoid speeding tickets. Apply a few of these tips to limit your chances of getting a speeding ticket:
  • Avoid road rage or street racing.
  • Listen to something soothing on your ride rather than Slayer or Metallica or whatever gets you pumped.
  • Set your cruise control to the posted speed limit.
  • Keep an eye on your speedometer.
Following these tips can help you avoid tickets and unnecessary hassles with law enforcement without having to purchase an expensive radar detector.
