Does every Honda Element come standard with all-wheel drive or do you have to pay extra for it?

No, not every Honda Element has all-wheel drive, although upgraded powertrains are available.
The Element comes standard with front-wheel drive, but buyers may choose to upgrade to all-wheel drive. You can spot AWD Elements because they’ll have a “4WD” emblem on the rear hatch.
Honda calls the system “4WD,” but because it doesn’t have a locking differential, it actually operates like an intelligent all-wheel drive powertrain.
The vehicle will run in front-wheel drive mode unless the front tires start spinning faster than the rear ones. In this case, the fluid clutch system on the drive shaft will close and power will be sent to the rear so all wheels become active.
