How do I recharge the freon on a Honda Accord?

I live in Southern California, so the weather is always warm. Unfortunately, my Honda Accord’s AC stopped working. A friend of mine told me that I probably just need to recharge the freon. How can I recharge the freon on a Honda Accord?

Being without air conditioning in
California
or any other warm state is a nuisance! Fortunately, fixing it is simple. To recharge the freon on a
Honda Accord
, follow these steps:
  1. Purchase a can of R-134a freon. This will typically cost between $30 and $50, depending on where you buy it and what brand you choose.
  2. Pop the hood and find the low-pressure valve marked with an L. You can usually see this on the left-hand side of the engine compartment.
  3. Hop in the car and turn the AC to the maximum setting. Let it run for a few minutes.
  4. Remove the cap from the low-pressure valve and attach the hose from the can of freon.
  5. Recharge the freon by pressing the trigger or turning the can upside-down, depending on what type of freon you purchased. This should recharge the AC system.
If you don’t feel comfortable completing these steps, you can always take your car to a mechanic. In most cases, you can expect to pay around $100 to $150 for a freon recharge.
