How to remote start your 2021 Honda Accord

Although the Accord’s remote start feature will work from up to 400 feet away, for best results, make sure you’re within 100 feet of your vehicle to avoid problems. Once you’re in range, follow these steps to rev your engine.

Starting the car

  • Click the lock button on your
    key fob
    .
  • Within five seconds, press and hold the remote start button (the circling arrow on the fob). This may take a few seconds to start.
  • The indicator signals will flash twice to confirm the engine has started, and then you’re good to go!
Once you get in your Accord, step on the brake and hit the ENGINE START button once to engage the rest of your vehicle. You’ll see the dash illuminated and you’ll be ready to hit the road! Remember that the remote start only activates the engine and the cooling system.
When your Accord’s engine has started, it will idle for 10 minutes before shutting off automatically. When your engine starts, the automatic climate control system also gets fired up to keep the interior temperature at 72º F—that way, you’re nice and toasty when you hop in. And if it’s a hot day, it will adjust to keep you comfortable.

Turning off the engine

  • Press and hold the remote start button. The signals will flash when the engine clicks off.
  • You can also stop the engine with the HondaLink® app by touching “STOP” or “EXTEND.” This is only for the Touring trim on the Accord sedan.
If you’re not keen on trudging through the
winter weather
, Honda’s remote system makes it easy to turn your Accord off—just press and hold the remote start button and your engine will turn off. That way, you can stay snuggled on your couch!

FAQs

Remote start technology became available on the 2015 Honda Accord on select trim levels only: the Accord EX (CVT only), EX-L, and Touring. All 2015 and newer models come standard with the technology. However, if you have an older vehicle that doesn’t have a remote start, many compatible aftermarket remote start packages can be installed.
Starting your engine with the remote start takes less than five seconds. Follow the startup instructions, and your Accord will power up in a few seconds.
