trailers
while driving, but each state has its own safety requirements and conditions. Even if legal in some states, this does not mean it is safe. It is always recommended to remain in the vehicle with proper seat belts and safety equipment, which many 5th wheel trailers do not have.These states allow passengers to ride in 5th wheel trailers:

Keep in mind—if you cross from a state that allows passengers to remain in 5th wheel trailers to a state outlawing this practice, all passengers must ride in the main vehicle.
Tips for 5th wheel passengers:
- Have seat belts professionally installed in the 5th wheel trailer and ensure they meet standard safety regulations
- Ensure a two-way communication device is in the 5th wheel trailer, for communication between the driver and passengers
- Reduce speed to between 55 and 60 miles per hour
- Install approved safety glass windows
- Ensure an unobstructed entryway at all times
- Install sway bars or electronic brake controllers for safer towing conditions
- Passengers should always be seated
- Make sure the trailer is properly loaded and all items are secured
