In this tech-savvy world, in-car smartphone connectivity is critical in keeping up with the latest innovations. That's why most automakers rushed to integrate their vehicles' infotainment systems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In the bid to enhance user experience and
vehicle technology
, Infiniti took the move to provide wireless connectivity to selected models under its Q-Series.
Eligible Infiniti owners can be happy knowing the technological modifications will boost their car values.
Infiniti is implementing free Apple CarPlay upgrades to their 2020 Q-Series models.

Infiniti's free wireless Apple CarPlay upgrade

Infiniti announced on 12 October that it would perform wireless upgrades for its 2020 Q-Series models with plug-and-play Apple CarPlay connectivity. The upside to the news is that the automaker will be providing that modification for free.
According to
Autoblog
, select Infiniti owners will be able to connect their Apple CarPlay infotainment systems without any cables. While the integration of wireless connectivity is not new in the automotive industry, Infiniti is introducing the feature to its 2020-2021 models for the first time.
That's not to say these models didn't have the Apple CarPlay; in fact, 80% of Infiniti models have smartphone connectivity. It's only that they operated a plug-n-play technology, which means the connection was only through the Lighting cable.
The free upgrades can be completed through a software update based on the manual and image references offered by the company. For convenience, car owners can visit any Infiniti retailer to get software updates, which take less than an hour.

When Infiniti introduced Apple CarPlay, only the QX60 was left out. It means most 2020 models are eligible for the upgrades, including the Q50 (sports sedan), Q60 (sports coupe), QX50 (midsized crossover), and QX80 (full-sized SUV).
Motor1
found that the Q30, QX30, and QX70 aren't eligible for upgrades as none of these models have made it to the Infinity product lineup for over a decade.
Until launching its 2020 Q-Series, Infiniti models used the patented dual-screen In-Touch system. The car manufacturer is among the latest automakers to bring the Apple CarPlay connectivity to its infotainment systems, despite the Apple CarPlay launching in March 2014.

Infiniti promises future updates for its Android Auto users

When asked whether it would provide the wireless upgrade to Infiniti owners using Android Auto, its spokesman said that the brand is also considering software upgrades for its Android Auto users.
The Apple CarPlay upgrade was essential in maintaining its competitive edge since 80% of its customers use Apple-powered infotainment systems. It means that only 20% of its customers will continue to rely on the Lightning cable to have their Android UI splashed on their infotainment displays.
Still, it would be an excellent token of appreciation if Infiniti could render the same generosity to its somewhat "marginalized" consumers.
Infiniti is offering complementary software updates from October all through to 31 March 2022. If you'd like to switch to the more convenient wireless Apple CarPlay, it would be best to start booking an appointment with your dealer.
