boasts aggressive styling and an outrageous 472-horsepower 5.0-liter V-8 engine. It’s only available in two trims — the base trim and a limited-run RC-F Fuji Speedway Edition model. But don’t worry — the base trim comes standard with an adaptive suspension, Brembo six-piston brakes, a limited-slip brake differential, 19-inch forged aluminum wheels, rear spoiler, automatic LED headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. Inside the RC-F, you’ll find simulated leather upholstery, a manually-adjustable tilt-and-telescoping steering column, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. A 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment touchscreen — which can be upgraded to a 10.3-inch display for an added cost — features controls for Lexus’s Safety System+ suite of driver assistance technology, including forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning, and lane-keeping assist.
The touchscreen also offers drivers access to standard Scout GPS Link navigation (integrated navigation available), a 10-speaker audio system (a Mark Levinson sound system upgrade is available), SiriusXM internet radio, Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Amazon Alexa integration, and a standard 4G LTE Wi-fi hotspot.

The 2022

AMG C43 combines the attitude of a sports car with the style and comfort of a luxury coupe — earning it the Editor’s Choice title from Car and Driver. Powered at both trim levels by the same 385-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 engine, all-wheel drive is standard on the C43. Altogether, the C43’s powertrain and chassis offer the coupe superior, razor-sharp handling. That being said, however, the model has the lowest cargo capacity of any of the coupes on our list at only 8.8 cubic feet. Mercedes’ Driver Assistance package equips the C43 with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist capabilities. These are joined by an adjustable suspension with selectable drive modes (Comfort, Sport, and Sport+). Unfortunately, all three of the C43’s drive modes are unnecessarily stiff — making for a less-than-comfortable driving experience on any pavement that isn’t perfectly smooth.

The base M4 Coupe is powered by a 473-horsepower inline-six cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission and standard rear-wheel drive, though all-wheel drive capabilities are available for an additional cost. Upgrading to the more expensive M4 Competition Coupe comes with an upgraded 503-horsepower inline-six engine paired with an automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Adaptive dampers, adjustable brake-pedal feel, and an electronically controlled exhaust system are standard features on all M4 trims.
The M4 is quite a bit faster than the other sports coupes on our list, going from zero to 60 mph is as little as 2.8 seconds. You can optimize the M4’s on-track capabilities by investing in the optional M Drive Professional Package, which adds an onboard drift analyzer and a lap timer, or the M Driver’s Package, which unlocks higher top speeds for M4 drivers, as well as a day-long high-performance driving instructional class.
5. Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing
Starting price: $61,890
Selling points: Near-perfect chassis and steering capabilities, comfortable enough for daily use
Weak spot: Slower than rivals like the BMW M4
Looking slightly to the future, the 2023 Cadillac CT4-V Blackwing is coming in hot as competition for the S5 with communicative steering, a well-balanced ride quality, and race-track capable handling. The Blackwing will be one of the last gas-powered Caddy hotrods before the brand goes all-electric, and is powered at its only trim by a 472-horsepower twin-turbo V-6 engine paired with a six-speed manual transmission or an optional 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard and all-wheel drive is not available as an optional upgrade.
The Blackwing does, however, come standard with adaptive dampers, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, a powerful braking system, and carbon-fiber trim interior accents. A 12-inch digital gauge cluster joins an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen on the Blackwing’s dashboard, offering drivers access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Wireless smartphone charging pads and a 14-speaker AKG Stereo system come as additional standard entertainment features on the Blackwing for 2023.

6. Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio

The Quadrifoglio is powered at its singular trim level by a 505-horsepower, 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine and eight-speed automatic transmission. A thin-rimmed steering wheel offers drivers optimized communicative feedback at top speeds and a pleasantly fast response. That being said, while the Alfa Romeo luxury coupe is certainly powerful and fun to drive, it has a reputation for being unreliable, with a number of mechanical glitches being reported by long-time drivers.

Otherwise the two models share a majority of the same features, including access to optional M Drive Professional and M Driver’s packages.
