More and more celebrities these days are getting into
car modifications
. And while there are those out there who might consider some of these celebrity customizations to be questionable, that hasn't stopped the rich and famous from doing them. One celebrity known for his car customizations is Will.i.am, who has gotten people talking with his souped-up Tesla Model S and other cars.
Will.i.am's modified Tesla Model S caught people's attention
People first started talking about Will.iam's customized Tesla Model S back in 2016, when it was spotted out and about on the roads of Beverly Hills.

gave the rundown on the car based on what could be observed from the outside since no one had been given official access to the interior at that point.The most notable feature on Will.i.am's Tesla was its wide body kit, which TopSpeed called "wild," saying that it "adds a whole new level of character to the Model S." The car's front was also heavily modified from the original Model S and included a wide black grill that resembled a smile.
Giving Will.i.am's Tesla extra character was the surprising cutout running along the doors. The cutout's black hue contrasts with the white on the car to give it an extra modern, almost space-age look.

Not everyone was a fan of Will.i.am's Tesla mod
The Model S and the Model 3, modifications or not, are consistently compared because they are the company's most popular offerings. When it comes to modifications on the Model S though, not everyone was prepared for Will.i.am's.
Some folks simply weren't up for the surprise, it seems. TopSpeed referred to certain journalists, for example, who called the car ugly and stupid, as well as a "puffed up marshmallow."

, who declared that he found the car's whole concept, aside from the wheels, "obnoxious.""Also, what's up with the doors?" he added. "They changed the handle configuration. Are they suicide-doors now?"
This was a car that seemed to inspire more questions than answers for many, but maybe that's what makes its design so intriguing. It's certainly not a concept you see every day on the road.

If you haven't already guessed, Will.i.am takes his car mods seriously. So seriously, in fact, that he has his own car tuning/body kit business venture called I.am.Auto.
At the time, he presented a vehicle that he had modified using all Chrysler parts. Will.i.am explained that he was starting the venture in large part to help provide jobs to residents living in the area of Los Angeles where he grew up.
