Surf City Police posted on their Facebook page, "At 9 pm, you ought to check and verify if your vehicle and doors are secure. Residents should also usher in any valuables and/or trash out of sight." They added that "If you got security cameras and smart doorbells, please check them for motion or activity and report back to our department in case you note anything suspicious."
Car thefts were also a prominent issue last September, as reported by

. Police suspected that a coordinated car theft ring from Newark was targeting luxury vehicles in Jersey Shore communities, including Surf City.
