Long Beach Island faces rising cases of car theft
According to The SandPaper, police are warning LBI city residents to be vigilant following an increasing number of car thefts. Officials implemented a “9 pm routine” that encourages residents around the region to monitor the safety of their properties.
Surf City Police posted on their Facebook page, “At 9 pm, you ought to check and verify if your vehicle and doors are secure. Residents should also usher in any valuables and/or trash out of sight.” They added that “If you got security cameras and smart doorbells, please check them for motion or activity and report back to our department in case you note anything suspicious.”
Car thefts were also a prominent issue last September, as reported by WHYY. Police suspected that a coordinated car theft ring from Newark was targeting luxury vehicles in Jersey Shore communities, including Surf City.

NJ Police Captain James Vaughn said, “Our message to our residents is simple: Lock your cars, do not leave your key fob or any valuables in your cars, and report any suspicious persons or vehicles in your neighborhood to your local police department immediately.”
The car thieves in LBI didn’t have to work that hard to steal those cars. If you’re worried about your car getting stolen, there are several simple steps you can take to keep it protected.
