Infiniti Q50
got a huge makeover—back in 2016. Since then, every model year of this car has remained pretty consistent besides some minor changes, like tweaks to the interior design and engine. One thing that hasn’t remained consistent on the Infiniti Q50 is the price, because it’s been on a steady increase each year. For the newest 2022 model, the base model starting price has jumped to $43,125—that’s $5,500 more than last year’s Infiniti Q50 base model!
While this car does have flashy bodywork and a fast engine, we just don’t see how this dramatic price increase on this
new car
could be worth it for buyers looking to buy an Infiniti at the base level. 
What is the 2022 Infiniti Q50?

Also new to the 2022 model is a flashy exterior design with gorgeous bodywork, and the interior isn’t too shabby, either. The inside of the 2022 car has upgraded luxury details like a 16-speaker Bose stereo, leather seats, and a power adjustable steering column. Not to mention, this car has a slew of safety features, a more advanced heating and cooling system, and wireless CarPlay.

2022 vs. 2021 Infiniti Q50
The reason for the large price difference between the 2022 and 2021 Infiniti Q50 is that Infiniti has dropped two makes of the car for this year. In 2021, the Infiniti Q50 had five different options for buyers to choose among—the Pure, Luxe, Sensory, Signature Edition, and Red Sport 400. Of these cars, the Pure model was the base model and lowest price point, starting at $37,625.
Now, entering 2022, Infiniti has dropped the base Pure model and the Signature Edition, leaving buyers to choose among the other three options. This means the Luxe is the cheapest model for 2022, but its price isn’t that of the Pure.
The 2022 Luxe Infiniti Q50 comes in at a starting price of $43,125, an increase of $5,500 compared to the cheapest option last year. The Sensory and Red Sport 400 models, on the other hand, barely increased with only a $200 difference on both cars between 2021 and 2022.
As we mentioned before, the changes between the 2021 and 2022 models are miniscule. This large price increase really isn’t justified between the base models, even though the Pure was dropped.
While the 2022 Sensory and Red Sport 400 are good options for Infiniti enthusiasts or people who want a luxury car at a lower price point, you could spend your money better elsewhere for a base model.
Alternatives to the 2022 Infiniti Q50
In a similar starting price range to the 2022 Infiniti Q50 are the
Genesis G70
, Lexus IS
and Cadillac CT4
, according to Kelley Blue Book. These cars start at $38,125, $40,000, and $34,000, in that order. The 2022 Genesis G70 features the same twin-turbo V6 engine as the Infiniti Q50 in its 3.3T Sport model, which starts at $42,100. In all models for 2022, this car has upgraded to a bigger navigation screen, a diamond shaped grill, better headlights and taillights, and a leather steering wheel.
The 2022 Lexus IS boasts 19-inch alloy wheels, a quad exhaust, and larger breaks than earlier models. The 2022 Cadillac CT4 is one of the most budget-friendly options for a luxury car, with multiple performance models, lots of storage space, and a great engine.
Your preferences and driving habits will determine which car is right for you. But, if you’re looking to get a standard base model of a luxury sedan, you’ll probably be able to get more bang for your buck outside of the 2022 Infiniti Q50.
