When did rumors about the 2022 Ford Excursion start?
Rumors about the 2022 Ford Excursion started circulating as early as February. Though nothing has been confirmed by Ford, it seems many are hopeful that the Excursion is coming back from the dead.
The original Excursion debuted in 1999 as a powerful and spacious SUV option and was modeled after the F-250 pickup. The large amount of space coupled with its solid horsepower made it a sturdy, versatile option.
Despite it doing well in the beginning, the Excursion was discontinued after just seven years due to the Great Recession.

What could the new Excursion look like?
Most sites, 2021 Best SUV included, think that the 2022 Excursion will keep pretty close to the F-250 in mechanics. They speculate that the SUV will have highly capable suspension, which will be good for its towing capacity.
There will be three trim levels, starting with a 6.2-liter V-8 base model with about 385 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque. Going up from there, the next variant will have 430 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque with a new 7.3-liter Godzilla engine.
The third trim level is harder to guess, but it could have the 6.7-liter turbodiesel, which puts out 475 horsepower and a whopping 1,050 lb-ft of torque. However, that amount of torque isn’t really necessary for the Excursion and nothing is set in stone.
They also believe that the Excursion will be even larger than its predecessor. This could mean having a wheelbase larger than 138 inches and the car sitting over 140 inches over the axles. This could put the cargo space at 160 cubic feet or more.
More cabin space is also a likely addition if the wheelbase is increased, which would give third-row passengers a good amount of legroom. If the F-250’s cabin is any indication, the interior design will be stylish and practical, leaning toward what you might see in a high-end truck.
Tech and finishes will likely depend on the trim levels offered, but we’re hopeful that the Excursion’s comeback might encourage Ford to dole out some extra features.
When could we see the Excursion for sale?
