background
Tesla’s screen clean mode darkens the touchscreen, so you won’t accidentally press buttons and change your settings while you clean it.
It’s important to clean your touchscreen every once in a while, especially if you have more than one person operating your Tesla. You want to keep your Tesla screen smudge-free, right?
If you’re not sure how to access screen clean mode—or you’re just curious about Tesla’s many controls—stick around.

What is Tesla screen clean mode?

Tesla screen clean mode is a feature designed to help you clean your Tesla touchscreen without activating any of the buttons and accidentally changing settings.
Who can benefit from this feature?
  • Clean freaks
  • Germophobes
  • Anyone with fingers
When you activate screen clean mode, your Tesla’s touchscreen will go dark, disable the buttons, and allow you to more easily see smudges. Now all you’ve gotta do is grab a microfiber cloth and go to town on that dust!

How to turn on Tesla screen clean mode

To turn on screen clean mode in your Tesla, follow these steps:
  • Put your Tesla in Park
  • On its touchscreen display, select “Controls
  • Select “Display
  • Select “Screen Clean Mode
And voila! You’re in screen clean mode. The screen will go dark. All that’s left to do is select your favorite soft lint-free cloth specifically designed to clean monitors and displays and clean to your heart’s content!
Keep in mind that screen clean mode is disabled when the vehicle is in motion.
Pro Tip Do not use cleaning products, sanitizers, or wet wipes on your touchscreen. These can damage the screen!

How long can you leave Tesla screen clean mode on?

Tesla’s screen clean mode will stay on until it is disabled or when the vehicle is in motion. In order to disable screen clean mode, simply press and hold the “Hold” button to exit.
An added bonus? Screen clean mode has no effect on your Tesla’s battery, so you can take your time cleaning those stubborn smudges and streaks!

Which Teslas have screen clean mode?

The screen clean mode feature is available in virtually all Tesla models. That’s right, screen clean mode is available in Model 3, Model S, Model X, and Model Y.
The only Tesla with no clean screen mode feature is the original 2011 Tesla Roadster—so keep this in mind if you’ve got a penchant for a clean screen.

How to optimize your Tesla insurance

Keep in mind that your
Model 3 car insurance cost
will likely be less than the

. This is because the Model 3 is a less expensive vehicle and has less overall value. By the same token, your

will likely be less than the
Model X car insurance cost
