Fiat 500e Battery Charge Time

It can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours to fully charge a Fiat 500e’s battery.

background
The battery of a Fiat 500e can be charged to 100% in about 4 hours using a 240-volt Level 2 charging station; however, if you opt for a slower Level 1 charger, then recharging at home could take up to 24 hours.
One of the most inconvenient aspects of owning an
electric car
is determining when you'll have time to charge it. Nonetheless, if you're still considering buying a used Fiat 500e, it's crucial to understand how your charging choices will impact the 500e's charging times.
Let’s go over the various Fiat 500e charging options, from the least efficient to the most, and discuss the pros and cons of each.

How long does a Fiat 500e take to charge?

The simple answer is that it can take anywhere from 2 to 24 hours, depending on your vehicle's range and charging method.
The electric motor in the 2019 Fiat 500e produces 111 horsepower, and the vehicle's
maximum range
is 84 miles thanks to the 24.0-kWh battery pack. Since the Fiat 500e was only available in one trim, there’s no option for a 2019 model with an extended range.
The first model that came out in 2013—and the ones that came out every two years after that—had a slightly longer range of 87 miles.
While the Fiat New 500 (also known as the 500e) is only sold across Europe now, the Fiat 500e was available in two states between 2013 and 2019:
California
and
Oregon
. But keep your eyes peeled for the 500e’s return stateside, as Fiat is planning to bring it back in 2024!
For now, let's dive into the different charging methods and speeds for the Fiat 500es that are already here.

At-home charging speeds for a Fiat 500e

Level 1 chargers, which use your typical 120-volt household outlets, provide the slowest charging option for electric vehicles. But they are especially convenient because you can just plug your car into any standard outlet and wait for it to charge.
Unfortunately, you'll have to wait quite some time—for the 84-mile-range, 24-kWh Fiat 500e, you can expect to reach a full charge in about 24 hours from a home socket.
If you want a speedier charge time, then a Level 2 charger is your best bet. Level 2 chargers use 220- to 240-volt outlets, averaging around 32 miles of driving range per hour of charge.

For the Fiat 500e, a Level 2 charger should be able to take you from zero to a full charge in just two to five hours

A certified electrician can easily install a 240V outlet if you don't already have one within range of your vehicle.
Sometimes, the cost can even be offset by rebates and financial incentives from local, federal, state, or utility companies for the charger, installation, or charging at lower electric rate times. For example, Oregon’s EV incentives include rebates from several utility companies for customers who install Level 2 chargers at their residences.

Public charging speeds for a Fiat 500e

While a 240V outlet is the quickest choice for charging at home, a public DC fast-charging point (also known as Level 3) provides the fastest possible charging speeds.
Unfortunately, you cannot charge a Fiat 500e at a Level 3 public charging station—some EV batteries simply cannot handle charges at such high wattage (up to 350 kW), and the 500e is one of them.
But, if this provides any consolation, Level 3 charging is also the most taxing on your battery and can have a negative impact on its performance and durability. Many car manufacturers even include a warning about this in their owner's manuals.
If you find yourself needing to charge on the road, Fiat has updated the 500e's navigation system so that it shows you where charging stations for EVs are located. You can also check out a full map of public electric charging stations across the United States (and Canada) on the
