How to replace a lost driver’s license in Wyoming

It’s important that you get a replacement right away if this happens to you. Driving without a license can get you in serious trouble with local law enforcement, even if the license is genuinely lost.

Replacing a lost Wyoming in person

To replace your lost Wyoming license you’ll have to go to the nearest driver exam office, complete the Wyoming Driver Licenses Application, pay a fee of $10, and get your picture taken for your new ID.
Here are the documents you’ll need to bring with you: 
  • A valid U.S. passport or state-certified birth certificate
  • Proof of name change (if necessary)
  • Proof of your Social Security number (W-2 form, IRS tax form, SSN card, etc.)
  • 2 documents to prove your Wyoming residency (excluding your driver’s license; your name and address should appear somewhere on each document and they can’t be more than a month old.)
You’ll be charged a $10 replacement fee. You’ll receive your license in the mail in two to three weeks, but you’ll usually be issued a temporary one so you can get right back to driving

What if you lose your Wyoming license out of state?

If you lose your Wyoming license while traveling or living out of state, you may still have some good options. Start by going online for all the information provided on the WYDOT

If you’ll be back in Wyoming within 60 days, you may be eligible for a temporary driver’s license to last until your to Wyoming where you can apply in person. If you’ll be away for longer than 60 days, there’s still no need to worry. You might be eligible to file a renewal of your license by mail. You’ll need the same documents listed above, and you’ll need to send them to the WYDOT office.
You’ll then need to:
  • Fill out an
    application form
  • Complete a vision portion of the application and have it signed by an optometrist or DMV office
  • Send your application to: Driver Services - WYDOT, 5300 Bishop Blvd., Cheyenne, WY  82009-3340, with the $10 replacement fee.
