You can do more than just lock or unlock your car with your Mazda CX-5 key fob—you can also enable panic mode or even open it up to change the battery!

The Mazda CX-5 panic button allows you to activate your car’s anti-theft alarm to deter suspicious activity that you’ve been able to spot from afar.
You’ll need a small flat-head screwdriver to access your Mazda CX-5 key fob battery and a fresh CR2025 battery to replace it.
The Mazda CX-5 key fob allows keyless entry to unlock and lock your car doors and power liftgate from a distance:
To unlock your Mazda CX-5: Hit the unlock button once. Hit the button twice to sound the horn and flash the lights.
To lock your Mazda CX-5: Hit the lock button once. Press this button twice to hear the horn and get light feedback while locking the vehicle.

How to open your keyfob
You’ll need to open your Mazda CX-5 key fob if the battery ever needs to be replaced.
What you’ll need:
CR2025 battery
A small, flat-head screwdriver
Follow these steps to open up the back of your CX-5 key fob and replace the battery:
Remove the metal auxiliary key by pressing the auxiliary key button on the back of your key fob.
This will expose slots on either side of the key fob case. Use the screwdriver to gently pry these open.
Once the case is open, set it aside in a safe place where you won’t lose it.
Remove the battery cap and gently remove the dead battery, taking care not to damage the rubber ring it sits on. If you damage this ring, you’ll need to replace it before continuing.
Set the replacement battery in place on top of the rubber ring with the + sign facing up.
Return the battery cover to its proper place and gently press until you hear it click. Close the case, replace the auxiliary key, and close up the key fob.
