Can you remove the second row seats from a Saab 9-5?

Possibly. Saab 9-5 second row seat removal is a complicated process. No matter what, we’ll be able to walk you through the steps for removing the backrests, but you may not be able to remove the seat base.
First, determine if your seat base can be removed by attempting to locate the seat fastening system. With the backrests lowered, look on the floorboard of the vehicle, under the floor covering to see if you can find the bolts attaching the seats to the vehicle floor. They will be easily recognizable if they’re there, and all you’ll need is a wrench to remove them. If you don’t see the bolts, you can’t remove the seat base.
Now that you know whether you’ll be removing both the backrests and the seat bases or just the backrests, it’s time to gather your tools:
  • A wrench
  • Room to maneuver the seat parts out of the vehicle
  • A helper—these seats are going to be heavy!
Now you’re ready to begin removing your Saab 9-5’s second row seats.

How to remove the second row seats from a Saab 9-5

First, you’ll need to remove the second row seat’s backrests. These rear seats are split in a 60/40 configuration, meaning one part of the seat contains a side and middle seat (60%), and the other is just a single seat (40%). What you’ll need to start with is the single seat, or the 40% seat’s backrest:
  1. Detach the upholstery hooks at the seat belt mounting.
  2. Fold up the seat cushion using the loop located between the cushion and the backrest.
  3. Release the backrest lock using the lever located in the trunk
  4. Tilt the backrest forward slightly and lift it up to slide it off the mounting pins.
Now, you can remove the 60% seat’s backrest:
  1. Detach the upholstery hooks at the seat belt mounting.
  2. Fold up the seat cushion using the loop located between the cushion and the backrest.
  3. Release the backrest lock using the lever located in the trunk
  4. Pull the backrest spindle pin out of the center floor mounting
  5. Lift out the 60% backrest
After you’ve removed the backrests, locate themounting bolts for the seat bases under the front of the back seat and behind the seat in the trunk of the car.
If you do see the bolts, simply remove them with a wrench and slide the seats out of the car.
If you do not see the attachment bolts, then your seats are connected from beneath the vehicle and cannot be removed.

FAQs

Possibly. The rear backrests can be removed in all Saab 9-5s but only some have the seat-base installation hardware accessible through the cabin and trunk. Others have the rear seat bases attached from under the car, making them nearly impossible to access without the help of a mechanic.
