United Postal Service change of address in New York

Ensure you provide the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) with your updated address by filling out a
change of address form
. Doing so will make sure your packages and letters are delivered to your new place, allow you to update your voter registration, and may earn you up to $750 in coupons.

How to notify your insurance company of your New York change of address

After updating the DMV and the postal service, make sure you also notify your insurance provider of your new address.
Updating your address is usually as easy as calling your agent. Some companies also have online portals or apps through which you can change your address.

Why notifying your insurance company of a change of address is so important

Letting your auto insurance company know that you’ve moved allows them to make sure your policy meets
New York insurance requirements
  • New York mandates that all drivers’ policies include minimum amounts of liability insurance,
    uninsured/underinsured motorist coverage
, and personal injury protection (PIP)
  • Violating state insurance requirements can earn you fines or even jail time.
Insurance providers also use your address to help set your insurance rate.
  • If you live in an area where your car is less likely to be damaged, your rates may drop
  • If you live in an area where accidents are common or property crime is high, they may increase a bit.
Failing to notify your insurance company of a change of address could be considered a form of fraud.
Long story short: Notify your insurance provider as soon as you move. A little time now could save you a world of pain later. And if you’re looking for
