How many Toyota 86 Hakone Editions were made?

I found myself on the car side of TikTok (i.e., CarTok) the other day and saw someone talking about the Toyota 86 Hakone Edition. Are they rare? How many Toyota 86 Hakone Editions were made?

There’s no word on exactly how many Toyota 86 Hakone Editions were made, but just 2,476 GR86s were sold in 2020 and just 1,153 were sold in 2021—and even fewer of those were Hakone Editions.
As one of the lightest and most affordable sports cars available in the U.S., the Toyota 86 has gone by a few different names in the past, like the
Subaru BRZ
, the Scion FR-S, and most recently, the Toyota GR86.
The 2020 model year saw the release of the dark emerald 86 Hakone Edition, featuring 17-inch bronze wheels, leather upholstery trim, and upgraded convenience features like heated seats and keyless entry. The 86 Hakone’s engine stayed the same as the base 86—a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 203 horsepower and 156 lb-ft of torque.
Critics say the modern 86 models look too dated to be appealing to a wider audience, and they don’t deliver the power you’d want in a sports car. The special-edition Hakone also costs nearly $30,000 (compared to a base model 2023 GR86’s MSRP of $27,900), making it an even harder sell.
