How to change your address on a New Hampshire driver’s license

Even if you are moving within the state, New Hampshire does not allow residents to update their addresses online. It must be done in person or by mail.

Updating your address by mail in New Hampshire

If you opt to update your address by mail, you’ll have to submit a filled-out
Record Change Request Form
and a photocopy of your current driver’s license to a
DMV Drop Box location
. You can also mail it to the following address:
Department of Safety
DMV - Driver Licensing
23 Hazen Drive
Concord, NH 03305
To get a license with your updated address, you’ll also have to pay a $3 fee. Your permanent license will be mailed to your new address within 60 days.
The Record Change Request Form requires you to provide your name, date of birth, and both your new legal and mailing addresses, along with other identifying information. This form will only be accepted if it is signed and dated.
Here's
the full list
of acceptable forms of identification.
If you need to change your address and are not able to submit a photocopy of your license because it has been lost or stolen, you will not be eligible for a $3 replacement and will be required to apply for a duplicate driver’s license.

Updating your address in person in New Hampshire

with your new address in person, you'll need to visit the
NH DMV

.

If you’re moving to New Hampshire from another state

If you’re moving to New Hampshire from out of state, the process will require a bit more of your time and even more documents. Not only that, but your address can only be updated in person.
To obtain a New Hampshire driver’s license as a new resident, visit your local New Hampshire
DMV office
. There are certain
required documents
you will need to have with you at the DMV. They include the following:
If your out-of-state driver’s license has been lost or stolen, you are still able to transfer it to New Hampshire by filling out a
Verification of Out of State License
form.
Just know that you are only given 30 days upon establishing residency in New Hampshire to officially update your change of address.

Other steps for a New Hampshire change of address

Changing your address continues after the DMV because you’re also going to want to update your mailing address with the United States Postal Service (USPS), assuming you want to receive your mail and packages.
To update your address with USPS, fill out this
change of address form
. Plus, you can even update your voter registration and get up to $750 in coupons!

How to notify your insurance company of your New Hampshire change of address

Always inform your insurance provider of a new address to prevent a lapse in your coverage.
The good news is that almost all providers enable you to update your address by phone or online. But it’s still a good idea to review the terms of your policy and call your provider if anything remains unclear.

Why notifying your insurance company of a change of address is so important

Say you get pulled over for rolling through a stop sign—but you never updated your policy! If you neglect to let your insurance provider know of your address change and your policy lapses, you’ll be left victim to fines and could possibly even have your registration or license suspended.
New Hampshire requires all drivers to carry
minimum amounts of liability insurance
. Moreover, a lienholder may require you to have a particular policy. So it’s definitely worth reviewing your coverage when you move to make sure your insurance is up to date.
Always remember to inform your insurance provider of any changes to your address because providers typically refer to your address when setting your rate based on certain risks they identify with your particular ZIP code.
Failing to update your insurance provider of any address change sets you up for super-high rates on car, home, and renters insurance. Even worse, if your ZIP code changes and you fail to inform your insurance provider, it could be considered fraud.
