The short-lived TSX Sport Wagon was Acura’s first and only foray into the world of station wagons.
Known for sportiness and class, Acura attempted to bring some functionality to the luxury car market by extending the cab of its entry-level TSX sedan. While critics were quite receptive to the TSX Sport Wagon, the general public was less enthused and the TSX Wagon was discontinued in 2014, just three years after its introduction.
Station wagons are becoming increasingly rare as the SUV market continues to flourish. But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a good wagon anymore. Here to show you who’s dominating the station wagon market is the car insurance comparison app

Start earning nowDoes Acura still make a station wagon?
No. Acura only ever produced one station wagon—the TSX Sport Wagon—and it didn’t go very well. The TSX Wagon sold about 9,000 units over its three-year existence and was discontinued in 2014.
But that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a good car. In fact, Car and Driver gave the TSX Sport Wagon a very favorable review when it debuted in 2011, noting its nimble handling and excellent braking, as well as its ample cargo space—26 cubic feet behind the second row of seats, and 61 cubic feet with the back seats folded down.
The public seems to want SUVs more than anything these days, which means only the most established station wagons are likely to survive—Acura’s TSX Sport Wagon was unfortunately not one of them.
What’s the difference between a station wagon and a hatchback?
Not sure what the difference is between station wagons and hatchbacks? Here are the defining features of a station wagon:
Blended passenger and cargo area
Emphasizes cargo capacity
Generally includes a fourth pillar
While sedans are divided into a three-box design with separated compartments for the engine, passenger seating, and storage, station wagons and hatchbacks have a two-box design in which the engine has its own compartment and passenger seating and storage are combined.
The biggest difference between hatchbacks and station wagons is style. Station wagons are most identifiable by their long, boxy bodies and a rear liftgate that tends to close near a 90-degree angle. Hatchbacks, on the other hand, tend to have a shorter body and a sloping rear liftgate.

Now in its sixth generation, the Subaru Outback
continues to thrive despite the public’s love affair with SUVs. A lot of this success has to do with the fact that Subaru has designed the Outback to fit in with the SUV crowd. But, Volvo hasn’t rested on its laurels.Like Subaru, Volvo has evolved the hatchback concept to be more SUV-like. The Volvo V90 Cross Country combines a powerful 295 horsepower engine with top-of-the-line safety features including automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and semi-autonomous driving mode. The V90 boasts an 8.5 out of 10 rating from Car and Driver and was given a 2022 IIHS Top Safety Pick.
2022 Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo

You’re forgiven if the term “station wagon” isn’t your first thought when you hear the name “Porsche”. But, the German sports car maker has been cranking out this interesting little ditty since 2018.
The Porsche Panamera
Sport Turismo is unlike any station wagon around. It’s powerful—it’s a Porsche after all—with a 325 horsepower V-6 engine just to start. If you’re willing to pay more, you can have a 620-horsepower twin-turbo V-8 engine. It all depends on how badly you want to win races while taking the kids to soccer practice. The Panamera’s performance is predictably top-notch, with eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, rear-axle steering, and a 0 to 60 time of two seconds flat. The interior is equally high-end with leather upholstering and available massaging seats among the many luxurious options.
