background
The battery size of a Nissan Sentra ranges from BCI Group 35 to Group 40R, depending on model year, trim level, and engine size.
Your car’s battery is key to its performance—from helping you start your car to power it on the road. But not all car batteries are made the same! Many car batteries are specific to the type of vehicle you drive and tend to vary among different makes and models.
If you need to know what size battery comes in your Nissan Sentra, you’re in the right place.

How big is a Nissan Sentra battery?

In most modern Sentras, you’ll find a battery size of BCI Group 35, but older models may have a BCI Group 40R battery instead. But if you’re new to the world of car batteries, you’re may be wondering what all of those letters and numbers stand for—so let’s break it down.
BCI stands for The Battery Council International, an international trade association of battery manufacturers, distributors, recyclers, and retailers responsible for creating the system by which batteries are commonly grouped.
This system assigns groups, numbers, and letters to different car batteries depending on their size, type, and terminal locations. This information helps to determine which battery will best fit a certain vehicle.
Group sizes generally correlate to the number of amp hours a battery has, with higher levels indicating more amp hours. If the battery group number is followed by a letter, such as “R” or “F,” it means the terminal layout on the battery is different—it may be reversed or flat instead.
Most of the time, the group size of the battery you need will depend on your vehicle’s make, model, and engine size. For Nissan Sentra models 2013 and newer, you’ll need a Group 35 battery, which has the following dimensions:
  • Length: 9 1/16”
  • Width: 6 7/8"
  • Height: 8 7/8"
In Sentras 2012 and older, the battery size you need will depend on your trim level. Some still take the Group 35 battery that’s standard among all Sentra trims today, while others require a Group 40R or 24F battery instead.
