background
All Kia Souls have a recommended tire pressure of 33 pounds per square inch (PSI) for both the front and rear tires.
Your tire pressure may not be something you think about a lot, but having your tires inflated correctly is important for a lot of different reasons. Improperly inflated tires can lead to steering problems and poor fuel efficiency, as well as increased chances of a dangerous blowout.

What’s the right tire pressure for a Kia Soul?

For most years of the Kia Soul, the recommended tire pressure is 33 psi for all tires. There are a few sources that say the 2017-2019 years need 35 psi, but they seem to be in the minority. To confirm, check the sticker on the driver’s side door jamb in your Kia. The owner’s manual should have this info as well.
This number pertains to the tires that originally came with your Kia, so if you’ve replaced them or put on another kind of tire, it may be a little different. In this case, make sure you check the psi recommendations for your specific tires.
Take note, the psi number found on the sidewall of a tire is the maximum psi rating, not the recommended one.

How to check Kia Soul tire pressure

If you have a newer model, you might be able to check your tire pressure in your Kia’s infotainment display. Your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) should automatically alert you if you have an underinflated tire.
But what if you have an old Soul? Or what if you don’t want to be dependent on technology? You’ll need a
tire pressure gauge
, which is a good thing to keep in your car emergency kit. They have digital versions, but if you don’t want to worry about a dead battery the analog kind is the way to go.
Take off the valve stem caps from your tires and push your pressure gauge onto the valve stem. And there you have it—your tire pressure. Changes in how your car drives might also indicate improper tire pressure. Watch for things like decreased fuel economy, odd steering, or an uneven ride.
> Pro tip For the most accurate reading, check your psi when your tires are cold or when it’s been at least three hours since you’ve driven.

How often should you check tire pressure?

As a general rule, you should check your tire pressure once a month, and definitely before setting out on any long road trips.

How to tell if your Kia Soul needs new tires

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), you should get new tires every six years. But depending on how much driving you do and where you drive, this can vary. It’s a good idea to check your tires for any bulges, cracks, or odd wear patterns at the same time that you check the pressure.
Tires also have wear bars that mark the point where the tread is too low, and it’s good to familiarize yourself with the ones on your tires. You can check your tread depth with the penny method. Get a US penny, and stick it head first into the tread of the tire. If you can see the top of Honest Abe’s head, then you need new tires.

How to reset the Kia Soul tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) light

If you do have a TPMS, the indicator light should go off after you’ve properly inflated the tires and driven around a bit. However, sometimes it can be a little stubborn. Here are a few things you can try to
reset your TPMS
The first thing to try is simply hopping on a clear highway and driving for 10 minutes at a speed of at least 50 mph. This should reset the TPMS, and the next time you start the car you should be in the clear.
The other option is to turn your ignition on, but don’t actually start the engine. Press and hold the TPMS reset button (usually under the steering wheel) and release it when the indicator light flashes three times. Then start the car, and the TPMS should reset in about 20 minutes.
If neither of these works and you know your tires are inflated correctly, there could be a problem with the TPMS system. Contact your Kia dealer or mechanic for assistance!
