background
The 2021 Toyota Highlander comes with Apple CarPlay as a standard feature, but Highlanders made before 2020 will need to install the technology in their vehicle.
Since its inception in 2014, Apple CarPlay has quickly become an essential feature in newer vehicles. This audio feature uses Bluetooth and wifi to access your smartphone and stream your chosen audio through your car’s infotainment system. In addition to making it easier to listen to your favorite songs on the road, this Apple feature improves driver safety on the road by reducing distracted driving.
Toyota only introduced Apple CarPlay as a standard Highlander feature in 2020, but owners of 2019 Highlanders can still get this functionality with a quick trip to the dealership. The

Does the 2021 Toyota Highlander have Apple CarPlay?

Yes, the 2021 Toyota Highlander comes standard with Apple CarPlay
However, this iOS device-friendly feature only became a standard feature for the Highlander in 2020, so any models from 2019 or earlier won’t be equipped with CarPlay functionality.
While you’ll be able to plug in your iPhone or connect it via Bluetooth, 2019 models and earlier will lack the seamless integration of CarPlay.

How to turn on Apple CarPlay in a 2021 Toyota Highlander

Ready to enjoy the features of Apple CarPlay in your Highlander? You’ll need to set it up first. Before you get started, ensure your smartphone is compatible with the system. An iPhone 5 or newer with iOS 7.1 and above will work.
Start by turning on Siri on your iPhone and turning on your Toyota Highlander. Next, turn on your car’s infotainment system. Using a Lightning-to-USB cable, connect your iPhone to your Highlander. Once your device is connected, a menu will appear on your infotainment screen. From the options “Enable Once”, “Always Enable”, or “Do Not Enable”, select which setting you want.
And that’s it! You can now use your Highlander’s touch screen to control Apple CarPlay.
