Yes! In fact, Toyota has essentially standardized Apple CarPlay at this point. Most Toyota models from 2019 onward are equipped with Apple CarPlay to make it easier to integrate your different technology access points—and to prevent you from looking at your phone while you’re driving.
How to turn on Apple CarPlay in your Toyota Highlander
Now that you know that Apple CarPlay is an option for you, you’re probably wondering: how do I get started? Fortunately, it’s really easy. Just follow these steps:
- Enable Siri on your Apple iPhone, if you haven’t already.
- Connect your iPhone to your vehicle via the USB port. You’ll need your lightning connector for this part!
- On your Toyota’s display screen, select Menu > General > Apple CarPlay.
- Once you do this, your phone should automatically connect to CarPlay. You will be prompted with a pop-up on your phone screen with three options: Always Enable, Enable Once, or Do Not Enable. It’s important to note that, if you select Do not Enable, your phone will not connect to Apple CarPlay. If you plan to use CarPlay frequently in this vehicle, it’s recommended that you select Always Enable.
- Wait for four to six seconds for your phone to establish a connection with your car.
After this, your phone will be connected to your car via CarPlay, and you’ll be able to access certain apps through your Highlander’s display screen, including Navigation, music streaming services, and other items that might tempt you to pick up your phone while you’re driving. This makes you a safer driver and makes the things you’re looking for more readily available. Talk about a win-win!
