How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2019 Jeep Compass

You might feel a little annoyed about seeing (and hearing) the oil maintenance reminder every time your start your Jeep Compass engine. However, resetting the oil maintenance light is important for more than just avoiding irritation. It’s also necessary because the system needs to track the correct interval before reminding you again in the future.
This reminder comes in the form of an Oil Change Due message that shows up in the instrument cluster display for five seconds after a chime sounds. This keeps running until you reset it and is activated when you switch the ignition to the On/Run position. Luckily, resetting it is quite straightforward.
Here’s how:
  • Push the Engine Start/Stop button, without pressing the brake pedal.
  • Cycle the ignition to the On/Run position, but don’t start the engine.
  • Fully press the accelerator pedal slowly. Repeat for a total of three times within ten seconds.
  • Cycle the ignition back to the Off/Lock position.
This should reset the oil change light, but if it doesn’t work and the light comes on again when you start the car, repeat the above procedure.

How often does a 2019 Jeep Compass need an oil change?

Jeep recommends scheduling an oil change every 3,000 to 5,000 miles for the 2019 Compass, unless you use synthetic oil, in which case it should be changed every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. Oil changes might not seem like a priority but it’s essential to keep your Compass running smoothly and avoid
serious damage to your engine
.
Getting the oil changed at a repair shop can cost around $100 a time—and they will reset the oil change light for you. That said you can do it yourself if you follow the guidance in the
owner’s manual
which saves you money, but leaves you needing to reset it yourself too.
