Is the Chevy Spark an electric car?

My friend claims one of the first American EVs was the Chevrolet Spark, but as far as I can tell, the Spark is gas-powered. Please help settle our debate, is the Chevy Spark available as an electric car?

Chevy produced two versions of the Spark—one was electric and the other was not.
The gas-powered Chevy Spark: 
  • The original
    Chevy Spark
     was introduced to the U.S. market in 2012 (for the 2013 model year), and while it boasted great fuel economy, it was not electric.
  • Despite some concerns about its diminutive stature, the gas-powered Spark has been pretty successful and is still available today.
The electric Chevy Spark: 
  • In 2013, Chevrolet began producing an electric hatchback called the
    Spark EV
    , but it was discontinued in December 2016 when Chevrolet began selling the Bolt EV.
  • It was a compliance car designed to meet state mandates requiring more electric cars from manufacturers.
  • For most of its existence, it was only available in California, Oregon, and Maryland. 
To summarize, the original Spark was not an electric car, and the current Spark is not an electric car, but for a few years, Chevrolet did sell the Spark EV, one of the first mass-produced electric cars in America.
