2019 Ford Edge engine oil capacity

The two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine in your 2019 Ford Edge holds 5.7 quarts or about 5.4 liters of motor oil.
Before we go any further, it's important to distinguish between your
engine's displacement
(the two-liter volume occupied by the pistons in your engine's cylinders) and its oil capacity (how much oil the engine can hold to keep it running smoothly.).
It's always important to remember that capacity and displacement are two separate concepts.

What kind of oil does a 2019 Ford Edge need?

It's essential that you know your engine oil capacity, but it's just as important to know what type of oil your car takes. Yep, there are lots of different kinds of motor oils, and you need to use the correct type in your vehicle. You can't just go to the parts store and buy the first six quarts of oil that you see.
Instead, look for SAE 5W-30. That's what Ford recommends using in your 2019 Edge, and you can't go wrong when you select the manufacturer's recommendation.
If those numbers and letters look like some kind of confusing code, don't worry. It's actually pretty simple once you understand what each character means.
These numbers indicate the oil's thickness or viscosity. The "5" signifies how thick the oil is at cold temperatures (hence its placement next to the "W" for winter), while the "30" indicates how thick it is at warm temperatures.
Oils with lower numbers (and lower viscosities) flow more smoothly through your vehicle's engine.
If you're still unsure what oil to buy, consider these three quality options:

How often to change the oil in a 2019 Ford Edge

Ford recommends that you replace the oil in your 2019 Edge every 7,000 to 10,000 miles. If you're an infrequent driver, it might be easier to remember to change the oil every six months.
Considering the length of time that can elapse between oil changes, it is essential that you check the oil level and condition on a regular basis. If you fill up your gas tank every other time, you'll never forget to check the oil. However, you should always make sure to check your car's oil once a month.
When you do check the oil, look for these signs that it needs to be replaced:
  • Dark brown, black, or muddy-looking oil (clean oil resembles dark honey with an amber tint.)
  • Oil with a grimy, sandy, or gritty texture
  • Foul odors coming from the engine, like oil, burning, or smoke
  • Suddenly decreased engine performance
  • New and unusual sounds from your engine

How to change your oil and oil filter

Now that you've learned what type of oil and how much to put in your car, you're ready to start the actual process of replacing it. These are the
car tools and supplies
you'll need:
  • Jack and jack stands or ramps to lift the car
  • Ratchet wrench with a 15-millimeter socket
  • Oil filter wrench
  • Torque wrench
  • Funnel
  • Drain pan
  • Clean rag or towel
Start the car and let it run for about five minutes before you start—doing so will speed up the oil drain by warming the engine. When the engine is hot enough, shut it off, pop the hood, and proceed with the six steps outlined below.
Step 1: Remove the oil fill cap and dipstick.
Step 2: Get under the car, take out the oil drain plug, and collect the used oil in a drain pan.
Step 3: Remove the old oil filter from its housing as the oil drains.
Step 4: Use your finger to coat the new filter's gasket with a thin layer of oil and then screw it into place. Tighten the filter only until it's snug.
Step 5: Replace the drain plug and tighten it to 21 lb-ft.
Step 6: Use the funnel to fill the engine with fresh oil and then replace the fill cap.
The final step is to start the car and let it run for 30 seconds before checking the oil and adding more if necessary. Complete the procedure by checking that the fill cap and dipstick are tightly in place.
Don't forget to recycle your old motor oil before you finish cleaning up. You can pour the dirty oil into the new oil container and return it to the auto parts store for proper disposal.
