Is your engine oil warning light still illuminating after an
oil change
? If this light doesn’t turn off on its own after you’ve completed this important maintenance service, then you’ll have to reset it yourself. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at everything you need to know about the 2018 Mazda 3 oil reset process after an oil change.

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2018 Mazda 3

Your vehicle’s maintenance monitor keeps you up-to-date on all the regular services your Mazda 3 requires right on the dashboard in front of you. But after replacing the engine oil, you’ll have to reset the engine oil light so the system can determine when your next oil change will be due. Fortunately, resetting the engine oil warning light on a 2018 Mazda 3 is relatively simple.
If you have a dashboard illumination knob, all you have to do is press and hold the knob with the ignition off, then you’ll switch it back on. Keep pressing the dashboard illumination light for more than five seconds then the master warning light will flash for a few seconds until the reset is complete.
But if you have a touchscreen display on your 2018 Mazda 3, follow these instructions:
  • With the ignition on and the vehicle in Park, start by selecting the “Applications” menu on the home screen.
  • Select “Vehicle Status Monitor” and then click on “Maintenance” to see the maintenance list screen.
  • Select “Oil Change.”
  • Finally, select the “Reset” option from the oil change menu.
Once you have successfully reset your engine oil warning light, it should disappear from your dashboard. But when the time comes for your next oil change, this same warning light will reappear to remind you to replace your oil and oil filter.

How often does a 2018 Mazda 3 need an oil change?

The Japanese car manufacturer recommends using SAE 0W-20 engine oil and changing the oil on a 2018 Mazda 3 every 7,500 miles or 12 months. But if you’re driving in more severe conditions (e.g. extremely hot or cold conditions or consistent short-distance driving), Mazda suggests changing your oil every 5,000 miles or six months.
Keeping up with regular oil changes will ensure that your Mazda 3 stays in tip-top shape while preventing any
serious damage to your engine
. That’s why oil services are one of the most important maintenance items you’ll have to deal with as a Mazda 3 owner.
Although your
Mazda 3’s owner’s manual
recommends that oil changes should be carried out by an authorized Mazda dealer, you can easily replace your own oil and oil filter at home if you have the know-how and the right tools. Not only is it a pretty straightforward process, but as a bonus, you’ll also save about $100 by changing the oil at home!
As we’ve outlined above, resetting the engine oil warning light on a Mazda 3 is relatively painless. However, if this warning light doesn’t reset, then you’ll want to take your sedan to a local car repair shop or Mazda dealership so certified Mazda technicians can take a closer look at any underlying issues.

This app is great, but the customer service is even better! Not to mention convenient! My husband and I got the lowest rate (much lower than the rates I was finding online through my own searches), quickly, and pretty much all through text message! Thank you so much for a hassle free experience👍
