2014 Scion TC engine oil capacity

You will need to know how much oil your Scion TC actually needs before you can get started on changing the oil.
The 2014 Scion TC has an engine oil capacity of 4.6 quarts or 4.4 liters. When you check your owner’s manual, you will also find your engine’s displacement, which is the volume of the cylinders. Engine displacement is not interchangeable with oil capacity, as oil capacity refers to the amount of oil your engine takes!

What kind of oil does a 2014 Scion TC need?

We’ve covered the amount of engine oil you need, but you will also need to know the type of oil that is compatible with your car. You’ll want 0W-20 synthetic oil for your 2014 Scion TC.
The 0W-20 is a low viscosity oil that reduces wear on your engine and performs well under cold weather conditions. The “W” refers to winter, while the numbers indicate oil viscosity. The first number is the oil’s viscosity—or its thickness—when it is cold, and the second number is the oil’s viscosity at higher temperatures.
With so many engine oils available, we know how overwhelming it can be to shop for engine oil. To stick with the original, the owner’s manual recommends Toyota Genuine
SAE 0W-20 Full Synthetic Oil
for the 2014 Scion TC. However, if you are unable to find Toyota genuine oil, another SAE 0W-20 motor oil is also acceptable.

How often to change the oil on a 2014 Scion TC

Toyota recommends changing your oil every 5,000 miles or six months–whichever comes first! Even so, you should check your oil once a month to ensure your oil is free of contaminants and keep your Scion TC in first-rate shape.
If you notice any of these symptoms, you’ll need to change your oil ahead of schedule:
  • Your check engine light comes on
  • Gritty or coarse motor oil
  • Smell smoking or burning when driving
  • Reduced performance
  • Strange noises

How to change your oil and oil filter

It’s almost time to change your Scion TC’s engine oil, but first, you’ll just need a socket and filter wrench, a drain pan, a replacement filter, and 4.6 quarts of synthetic motor oil
Now that you’ve gathered your tools and materials, we can get started! Warm up your Scion by running it until it reaches regular operating temperatures. After about five minutes, you can follow these steps to change your oil:
  • Disconnect the oil cap
  • Remove the oil drain bolt and washer
  • Drain the old oil into the drain pan
  • Remove the old oil filter before installing the new filter
  • Reinstall the bolt and washer
  • Fill the engine with the oil of your choice
After you’ve finished replacing your oil, check your oil levels using your dipstick and make sure you don’t have any leaks. If your oil change was done correctly, the oil pressure light on your dashboard should turn off.
After changing your oil, it’s a good idea to turn on your car and let your engine run for about 30 seconds before you check the oil level. This will give you a more accurate measurement, and you’ll be able to top it off if necessary.
You aren’t finished with a job like this until you’ve cleaned up. Pour the old oil into a sealed container and bring it to a recycling center to properly dispose of it.
