background
If you perform an oil and filter change yourself on your 2014 Honda Pilot, you’ll have to reset the engine oil life display to ensure it displays correct maintenance intervals—use the SEL/RESET and up and down arrows on your steering wheel to reset the engine oil display.
On a 2014 Honda Pilot, when the engine oil life display is 15% or lower, that means you’re going to need to change your oil soon. If you take your Pilot to a Honda dealership for this service, Honda technicians will reset the engine oil display for you. However, if you change the oil yourself, or a non-Honda technician performs the service, you’ll need to reset the oil life display to ensure it shows the
correct maintenance intervals
—otherwise, serious mechanical damage can result.
Here’s a guide to your 2014 Honda Pilot’s engine oil life light—including how to reset it!

How to reset the engine oil maintenance light on a 2014 Honda Pilot

The 2014 Honda Pilot’s engine oil life display is designed to keep you on top of your oil maintenance. But if you
change your oil and filter
on your own, you’re going to have to manually reset the engine oil life display so it displays proper maintenance intervals (i.e. when to change your oil).
Thankfully, resetting the Honda Pilot’s engine oil life display is quick and easy. You’ll use the buttons on your steering wheel to toggle through the multi-information display to get the job done. Here’s how to reset the engine oil display:
  • Turn the ignition to ON, but keep the engine OFF
  • To display the engine oil life, press the SEL/RESET button
  • Press and hold the SEL/RESET button for 10 seconds or more—the oil life reset mode will be displayed on the multi-information display
  • Select RESET with the up and down arrow buttons, then press SEL/RESET—the service code will disappear and the engine oil life will go back to 100%
With the engine oil life correctly reset, the Pilot’s engine life will be back to 100%. When the oil life drops to 15% or lower, the system will remind you that it's time to change your oil again.
